Job Description

Position: Media Trainer in Kyrgyzstan/Kazakhstan/Tajikistan 

Location: Bishkek/Almaty/Dushanbe    

Project: Media for Improved Reporting on Environmental and Natural Resources in Central Asia

Accountable to: Kyrgyzstan/Kazakhstan/Tajikistan Project Coordinator and Project Director

Contract: 14 months fixed term at 50% LOE/2.5 days per week

Benefits: 400-800 EUR per month depending on experience at 50% LOE

Summary of Role

The Media Trainer will be responsible for coordination and implementation of training activities. He/She will be responsible for providing training and continuous mentoring at country level to partners and beneficiaries and he/she will contribute to supporting the Network Development while implementing the project “Media for Improved Reporting on Environmental and Natural Resources in Central Asia”. The Media Trainer will assist Kyrgyzstan/Kazakhstan/Tajikistan Project Coordinator in managing Small Grant implementation by collaborating with partner organizations and general public relations.


Job responsibilities

  • Conduct training for journalists and media specialists
  • Develop training modules for training provided to journalists
  • Assisting in daily administration of the overall training activities
  • Assisting in communication with the partnering organizations and coordinate project activities with partnering organizations;
  • Responsible for leading on public relations of the overall training activities
  • Liaise between Internews in Kyrgyzstan/Kazakhstan/Tajikistan Office and Partnering organizations
  • Be responsible for preparing reports on progress of training implementation for Kyrgyzstan/Kazakhstan/Tajikistan Project Coordinator and Project Director
  • Assist in project implementation and development of partnership with other donor organizations
  • Assist in budget management on training component to assure the expenses are due to the planned activities and there is no overspending
  • Assist in other responsibilities\activities that are required for the smooth operation of Internews in Kyrgyzstan/Kazakhstan/Tajikistan
  • Participate at meetings organized by Internews
  • Work effectively in a team and independently
  • Other tasks as requested by the Project Coordinator/Project Director


Performance Indicators

  • Quality, timeliness and accuracy of reports, including financial reports and petty cash records
  • Financial transactions undertaken in compliance with Internews standards and Kyrgyzstan/Kazakhstan/Tajikistan local Legislation
  • Good working relations with the staff, partners and donors
  • Swift resolution of challenges and problems
  • Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of position responsibilities
  • Efficient and cost-effective use of project resources


Person specification


4-5 years of experience in a similar role/role with direct relevance to the Media Trainer role

Experience of producing reports for external audiences

Experience of monitoring spending within donor conditions

Experience of delivering training to Media Professionals


Fluency in written and spoken Kyrgyz/Kazakh/Tajik and Russian. (English is highly desirable but not required)

Ability to work well under pressure

Initiative and creativity in solving problems

Ability to create good working relations with colleagues, partners and donors


Knowledge of the current media environment in Kyrgyzstan/Kazakhstan/Tajikistan

Interest and understanding of environmental issues in the region
