Position: Regional Journalism Advisor

Location: Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

Accountable to: Project Director

Contract: 13 months fixed term at 100% LOE

Benefits: 3000-3500 EUR per month depending on experience at 100% LOE

Summary of Role

The Regional Journalism Advisor will be responsible for coordination and implementation of training activities in Central Asia. He/she will be responsible for providing training and continuous mentoring at the regional level to partners and beneficiaries and he/she will contribute to supporting development of a network of environmental journalists while implementing the project “Media for Improved Reporting on Environmental and Natural Resources in Central Asia”. The Regional Journalism Advisor will also assist the Regional Engagement Manager in managing the project’s small grants program, collaborating with partner organizations, and performing general public relations tasks.

Job responsibilities

  • Coordinate in-house Media Trainers, their reporting schedules, activities, and curricula
  • Coordinate with other partnering organizations to facilitate on-site trainings at the regional level as well as trainings conducted at the Internews offices
  • Conduct regional training and networking events for journalists and media specialists in Central Asia
  • Develop training modules for training provided to journalists
  • Assist in daily administration of the overall training and networking activities in-country and at the regional level
  • Assist Regional Engagement Manager in communications and activity coordination with partnering organizations;
  • Asist in regional public relations around the project’s training and networking activities
  • Liaise between Internews offices and partnering organizations
  • Prepare training progress reports for Project Director
  • Assist in project implementation and development of partnerships with other donor organizations
  • Assist in budget management for the training component
  • Carry out other tasks as requested by the Project Director

Qualifications

Experience

4-5 years of experience in a similar or directly relevant role

Experience of developing curricula and/or materials on environmental journalism

Experience of delivering journalism trainings to partners

Experience of producing project implementation reports for external audiences

Experience of delivering training to media professionals

Skills

Fluency in written and spoken Russian. (English is highly desirable but not required)

Ability to work well under pressure

Initiative and creativity in solving problems

Ability to create and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse group of colleagues, partners and donors

Knowledge

Knowledge of the current media environment in Central Asia

Interest in and understanding of environmental issues in the region
