Internews is an international non-profit organization that operates in Kyrgyzstan since 1995. Internews official slogan: “Local voices. Global change.”. Formed in 1982, Internews is a 501(c)(3) organization headquartered in Arcata, California.
The core mission of Internews Network in Kyrgyzstan is to develop free, high-quality and objective journalism that will promptly and impartially inform the local population about the situation and developments both within and outside the country.
Internews strives to enhance the professionalism of local media representatives and improve the quality of their products by organizing and implementing trainings for print, internet, TV and radio journalists.
A number of TV programs are produced within the office and shared with other local TV channels. In addition, Internews supports some TV broadcasts produced by local TV channels.
Within the last two years, the office of Internews Network in Kyrgyzstan pays great attention to new media development, providing trainings to the journalists and young media people in Bishkek and regions of the country.
Major donors of the office of Internews Network in Kyrgyzstan are USAID, European Commission and DRL.
Internews Network operates in about 70 countries around the globe. In Central Asia, Internews has offices in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. And among other CIS countries, Internews is present in Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Ukraine.
